What is Matcha?

  • Matcha is a form of green tea that is shade grown, handpicked and stone ground into a powdered form.  

What are the Benefits?

  • Matcha is packed with antioxidants, caffeine and theanine (a calming amino acid).  It has all the health benefits of standard green tea but in a more concentrated form.

How to Make Matcha Tea

  1. Add matcha powder to Chawan (ceramic bowl)
    1. For Usucha (thin tea) 
      1. Use about 1 tsp or 1.5 heaping scoops with the Chashaku (bamboo scoop)
    2. For Koicha (thick tea)
      1. Use about  2-3 tsp or around 3 heaping scoops with the Chashaku (bamboo scoop)
  2. Add water just before boil about 180°F
    1. For Usucha (thin tea)
      1. Add about 2-3 oz of water
    2. For Koicha (thick tea)
      1. Add about 1-2 oz of water
  3. Whisk back and forth in a W motion with Chasen (bamboo whisk) until froth forms and there are no large bubbles remaining
  4. Serve and Enjoy
